Summary of the Yellow Wallpaper

The essay describes the gender roles assigned to women in Literature, and the internal suppressed struggle of female writers at that time to accept it as the norm. Gilman and Woolfe can both be regarded as feminist writers who used their works to reflect the inner struggles against their suppressed role in society. The essay elaborates the issue using Woolfe's essays and Gilman's short story, The Yellow Wallpaper.

This short research paper talks about the use of sexist language and stereotypical roles assigned to women in literature. They are not sexualised but vulgar language is used to describe. The essay aims to explore the issue in light of Freud and Lacan's theories, including that of renowned feminist critiques.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the way the narrator interacts with the objects in the story, but also to reveal its destroying influence upon the narrator, and her reaction to it in the context of Victorian period. The narrator perceives her environment in the house, not as it is, but the way she feels herself, namely deprived and depressed.
