To portray an adolescent male or female as resilient there are 2 criteria’s which have to be present.1)significant adversity and 2)Positive adjustment.

when the adolescent shows signs of readjusting despite what risks they were/are faced with and shows signs of positive improvement for example- let’s say that an adolescent teen has been raped now many would be angry at the world, at the justice system and at their families and fall into a deep depression and even end up taking their own lives but positive adjustment comes in when that teen perhaps chooses an alternative route that despite the sexual trauma they have been through they do not let it determine the rest of their lives but instead maybe chooses to become the voice for those who cannot speak out for themselves, maybe by starting awareness campaigns and motivational talks to others about their experiences showing others that they are not alone and can overcome anything they set their minds to, the adolescent now adjusts positively by helping others. Resilience in adolescence also rely on how emotionally/mentally/physically strong they are themselves and whether those adolescence has a protective resource such as caring parents, good schools and religious practices to develop a positive outlook.
